West Herts CC is "THE" premier league cricket club in South West Hertfordshire. The club is a member of the ECB Home Counties Premier League.
West Herts C.C. was founded in 1891 and until 1922 shared the ground with Watford FC who then moved to their present home at the nearby Vicarage Road Stadium. This also presents club members with a meeting point for home matches of both Watford FC & Saracens RUFC.
Some of the more notable players for West Herts CC in the past have been Prince Ranjitsinhji (Sussex & England), Arthur Grimsdell (Hertfordshire CCC, Tottenham Hotspur FC & England), Jack Young (Middlesex CCC & England), Doug Yeabsley Devon & Minor Counties), Frank Hodgkiss (Hertfordshire & one of the youngest proffessionals to be signed in the Lancashire League), Alan Bell (Hertfordshire & Minor Counties (the 1st Minor Counties player to score a century in the Gillette Cup) and Alan Ramage (Yorkshire CCC, Middlesborough FC & Derby County FC) & in more recent times, Nick Walker (Derbyshire CCC & Leicestershire CCC), Alamgir Sheriyar (Kent CCC, Worcestershire CCC, Leicestershire CCC & England 'A'), overseas players Michael Foster (Australian Cricket Academy & Victoria), Jonathan Bastow (Natal), Neal Parlane (Wellington & New Zealand U19)& Steven Finn (Middlesex, England U19, & England)
The club is very ambitious and are always looking to improve at both playing & facility levels.
The club is situated in the heart of Watford. We are ideally situated as a family club. The town centre with it's excellent shopping centre is 5 minutes walk from the ground and the vast Cassiobury Park with paddling pools, childrens play area, canal and walks in Whippendell Woods is just outside the club entrance. For the late evenings, the thriving bar & club scene of Watford is also just a very short walk (stagger!!) from the clubhouse.
Within the club itself are other sports facilities including Gymnasium, Sun Beds, Squash, Tennis & Football. The clubhouse is open 7 days a week throughout the year.
If you are looking for a club that combines a high standard of cricket, facilities and a friendly sociable atmosphere then click the "come & play" link to find more details. New members at all levels of ability, both senior & colts, will be welcomed.
